Idli podi (Dried chutney) recipe

Ingredients :

  • 1/2 cup chana dal(split Bengal gram)
  • 1/4 cup urad dal (split black gram) 
  • 2 tbsp sesame seeds
  • 10-12 red chilies 
  • 1 tsp black pepper
  • some dried coconut pieces or 2 tbsp grated coconut 
  • 1 tbsp seedless dried tamarind 
  • 10-15 curry leaves
  • 1 tsp jaggery
  • 1/4 tsp Asafoetida (Hing)
  • 1 tsp salt or salt to taste 
  • 1 tsp turmeric powder
  •  1 tbsp oil

Method :

Heat 1 tbsp oil in a pan, roast both pulses(dal) till golden brown. Now add red chilies and sesame seeds, roast again 1 minute on low flame. Add coconut, curry leaves, black pepper and tamarind, stir them. Turn off the flame and let it cool down.
Grind all roasted ingredients and then add other ingredients and grind to a fine or little coarse powder. use it with idli or sprinkle this over the dosa. Cool it down and store in an air-tight container.
