Moong dal halwa recipe





Ingredients :
  • 1 cup moong dal
  • 1 cup milk 
  • 1 cup warm water
  • 4 tbsp ghee
  • 1/2 cup sugar or according to
  • few strands of saffron 
  • 2-3 tbsp water or milk to soak saffron 
  • 1/4 tsp cardamom powder
  • some dry chopped fruits (Almonds, pistachio, cashew nuts and raisins) 
Method :

Wash and soak Moong dal for 3-4 hours. Drain water and grind dal to a smooth paste. Saffron and little milk or water soak. Now heat a non-stick pan with ghee. Now add the dal paste and begin to cook on a low flame without burning. Keep cooking the mix till it becomes crumbly and you can smell the aroma. Keep stirring constantly to prevent burning. Add in the warm water. Mix well and break the lumps. Continue to cook constantly stirring. After 2-3 minutes, add sugar and mix well. When the sugar melts, add milk and cook for about 5-7 minutes. Now add saffron and mix well. Continue to cook till it begins to leave the sides of the pan. Add dry fruits and cardamom powder and mix well. Turn off the flame. When halwa is still warm. Just mash up well with a flat spoon to make it look soft halwa. Serve it hot and cool for the sweet time.
