#ChotteKadam For A Healthy Heart And Happy You

The #WorldHeartDay recently went by and between the frenzy of the upcoming Durga Pooja, it failed to get the required attention. Why should it be a cause for alarm? Well, India is a nation whose people are ahead in the race of cardiovascular diseases and several other lifestyle diseases; in this case scenario, our focus should be on taking healthier steps rather than prepping up for the season of gluttony in front of us.

Basically, lifestyle diseases arise due to an unhealthy lifestyle which includes being sedentary, eating junk and loads of stress. So today I will be discussing how to achieve the tri-objective of staying active, eating better and being happy through #ChotteKadam.

  • Make working out a part of your life: Most of us fail to get the required amount of physical activity and the biggest reason for it is because we cannot budget enough time in your schedules to go to the gym or find working out too boring. My remedy to this issue is utilising the weekends- go on trekking with family, join a dance class, start learning something fun like swimming or rock-climbing. In this way, you skip the drudgery that the word 'exercise' connotes, yet get your advised quota of physical activity in.
  • Reduce eating out: It is very common for professionals to skip meals and then later on order food from some fast food chain. In the long run, it proves to be very dangerous as skipping meals can cause acidity and constant dosage of junk ends up pushing your bad cholesterol levels up through the roof. At home also, we end up not having a balanced meal. The solution to this problem, in my opinion, is meal prep system adopted in the US these days where food preparation for the entire week is done on the weekend itself. Not only it saves time but gives you the chance to plan out balanced meals too!
  • Make the swap: Skip unhealthy or less healthy choices in favour of healthier choices. For example, foregoing packaged juices for fresh or cold-pressed juices and using Saffola oil. In the long run, these swaps will end up benefitting you more than the effort you required to put in making them! Just go slow and make one swap at a time for easy transition.
  • Allocate time for yourself and your hobbies: In the mad race to get ahead of everyone else, you would realise only later that how miserable you've become due to it. So, step back at this instant and evaluate whether you are being fair to yourself and are indulging in activities which make you happy. If you aren't making time for yourself, it is high time you start doing so. Because, my friends, time and tide wait for no one.
