Yellow Moong dal (split yellow gram) medu vada recipe




Ingredients :

  • 1 cup yellow Moong dal (split yellow gram)
  • 2 tbsp rice flour
  • 1 onion, finely chopped 
  • 2 green chillies, finely chopped 
  • a pinch of asafoetida (Hing)
  • 1/4 tsp red chilli powder 
  • 10-12 curry leaves, finely chopped 
  • 1/2 tsp cumin seeds
  • salt to taste 
  • Oil for frying

Method :
Soak moong dal in water for 3-4 hours. Drain the dal and transfer drained dal to a grinder. Make a smooth paste of dal. Pour the batter in a bowl, add rice flour, onion, green chilli, hing, curry leaves, chilli powder, cumin seeds and salt. Whip mixture for about 1 minute. Wet your hands and take about 1-2 tbsp dal mixture. And make a hole with the finger in the center to make the shape of a donut or pour the batter into medu vada maker. Heat oil in a deep fry pan to fry vada. Deep fry it in the  medium flame until it turns golden brown colour. Take it out on a plate. Serve it with any chutney or sambar.
