Without onion-garlic chana chhola masala recipe




Ingredients :

  • 1 cup chickpeas (kabuli chana)
  • 2 tbsp grated coconut 
  • 4 tbsp tamarind pulp 
  • 2 tbsp cashew paste (kaju paste) 
  • 1 tbsp jaggery or sugar 
  • 1 tbsp coriander powder 
  • 1/4 tsp turmeric powder 
  • 1/2 tsp red chilli powder 
  • 1/4 tsp garam masala 
  • 1/4 tsp cumin seeds 
  • 1/4 tsp Nigella seeds (kalonji)
  • 1/4 tsp fennel seeds 
  • 1/4 tsp mustard seeds 
  • 8-10 curry leaves 
  • salt to taste 
  • 2 tbsp oil 

Method :
Soak the chickpeas in water for overnight or 6-7 hours.
Now wash and drain well. In a pressure cooker, add  soak chickpea, 2 cups water, 1/4 tsp salt and cover it with lid, boil for 1-2 whistles. Drain of all water and keep it aside. Heat oil in a pan, add all seeds and crackle them. Now add curry leaves, saute for few seconds. Add coriander powder ,turmeric powder, chilli and garam masala powder. Add tamarind pulp, jaggery, 1/4 cup water and salt and cook for 1 minute. Now add boiled chickpea and grated coconut and cook for 5 minutes on medium flame. Add cashew paste and mix well.  Turn off the heat. Garnish with grated coconut. Serve it with roti, puri, paratha.
