Toovar dal with soya chunks dal tadka recipe

Ingredients :
  • 1 cup toovar dal 
  • 1 tbsp oil for dal stir-frying 
  • 3 cups water 
  • 1 cup  soya chunks 
  • 1/2 tsp turmeric powder 
  • salt to taste 
For Tempering (Tadka),
  • 1 tbsp deshi ghee 
  • 1/2 tsp cumin seeds 
  • 1 bay leaf 
  • 1/4 tsp red chilli powder
  • 1 whole red chilli 
  • a pinch of asafoetida (Hing)
Method :
Heat 1 tbsp oil in a pan, add toovar dal and stir-fry for 2 minutes on medium flame till light golden brown colour. Remove them from the heat. Wash and soak the soya chunks for 10 minutes, squeezed of all water. In a pressure cooker, add 3 cups water, turmeric powder, salt and soak soya chunks and fried toovar dal. And cook for 15 minutes on medium flame. Turn off the flame and keep aside to cool down.
For the dal tempering,
heat ghee in a pan, add cumin seeds, bay life, red chilli and asafoetida, crackle them and all till light brown colour. Add chilli powder and just add into cooked toovar dal and cover with lid. Serve with rice, chapatis.
