Idli rava onion uttapam recipe





Ingredients :

  • 1 cup Idli Rava
  • 1/4 cup urad dal
  • salt to taste 
  • 1 tsp dried curry leaves powder or curry leaves paste 
  • 1 large onion, chopped thinly slices and lengthwise 
  • 2-3 green or red chillies, chopped thinly slices 
  • 1-2 tbsps oil for shallow frying 

Method :
Wash and soak urad dal in a bowl for 3-4 hours. In another bowl soak idli Rava in 1/2 cup water for 15-20 minutes. After that, drain and grind urad dal into a fine paste by adding 1/4 cup of water. Now transfer it into the soaked Rava bowl and mix well. Now add salt, curry leaves powder or paste and mix well.

Heat a dosa griddle or tawa and when it becomes hot, reduce flame to low. Sprinkle few drops of oil on tawa and pour a ladle full batter and spread it using circular motions with the help of the ladle. It should be thickly spread and not paper-thin. Now, sprinkle onion slices and green chilli slices. Add 1/2 tbsp oil around the uttapam and cover with lid. Now after 1 minute open the lid and flip it gently and cook on the side over medium flame until bottom surface turns light brown in colour. It will take around 1-2 minutes. Now flip it again and cook for a few seconds. Transfer it to a plate. Serve it hot with any chutney.
