Vegetarian Tacos recipe



Tacos are a Mexican dish. They are famous all over the world. After all, they are so tasty, crisp and easy to make. I made some Tacos a week back, and am sharing the recipe with you today.

Ingredients :
For Tacos dough,
  • 1 cup of corn meal or Maize flour (makai ka atta)
  • 1/2 cup all purpose flour (maida)
  • 1 tbsp oil
  • 1/2 tsp red chilli powder 
  • 1/4 tsp salt 
  • oil for frying
  • water
For the Filling,
Serve for 8-10 Tacos,
  • 3 potatoes boiled, peeled and mashed 
  • 1 large onion finely chopped
  • 1/2 cup cabbage finely chopped
  • 1 tomato finely chopped 
  • 1 tsp rock salt 
  • 1/4 tsp red chilli powder 
  • 1/2 tsp crushed black pepper 
  • 4 tbs grated cheese 
  • 2 tbsp Jalapenos 
  • for garnish: tomato sauce, tamarind chutney, Mayonnaise 

Method :
In a bowl, add sieved maize flour, all purpose flour, salt, red chilli powder, 1 tbsp oil and mix well. Now add water to it and knead well such that the dough is neither hard and nor to soft, just the right consistancy. Now divide the dough and shape into  small balls. Now roll each ball with the rolling pin into a slightly thin puri shape as shown in the pictures. And prick with a fork all over and keep aside. Heat oil. Put puri in oil and immediately press a ladle into center so it form a basket. Oil is correct temperature when puri comes up around ladle. Once slightly golden and crisp, remove onto absorbent paper. Now leave to cool for at least 10-15 minutes. You can keep them in an air tight jar for a week.

Now, Bake taco shells for 5 minutes in the preheat oven or pan, This will make the shells crisp. Mix mashed potato, red chilli powder, crushed black pepper, rock salt, jalapenos well. Now take a taco shell and fill 1-2 tbsp mashed potato mixture. Top with onion, tomato, cabbage and few grated cheese. Serve, Tacos with tomato sauce, tamarind chutney, mayonnaise. It serve  immediately.
