Kela phool (Banana flower) pakoda, tasty and crispy recipe

Banana flower pakoda 

Ingredients :

  • 1 piece banana flower (Kela phool)
  • 1/2 cup rice (soak rice for 1 hour) 
  • 2 tbsp gram flour (Besan)
  • salt to taste
  • 2-3 green chillies
  • 5 garlic cloves
  • 1/4 tsp turmeric powder 
  • a pinch of asafoetida  (Hing)
  • Oil for frying 

Method:

Remove outer red layers of banana flower till white layer appears, slice it in half, remove the flowers and keep it aside. Now remove hard stem from each flower and chop each flower into very fine pieces. Now put all chopped banana flowers into a bowl with sufficient water and add 1/4 tsp turmeric powder and keep aside. After 15-20 minutes, drain off all water. In a blender, add soak rice, garlic, green chillies and 1/4 cup water and make a paste. Now in a large bowl, add chopped banana flower, rice paste, besan, salt and mix well to form to a tight batter. Now heat oil in a pan and drop mixture in peaks, deep fry till light golden brown and crispy. Now transfer them on to a paper napkin to remove extra oil. Serve with any sauce or chutney.
