Moong dal-chawal and vegetables ( split green gram dal-Rice) khichdi recipe


Ingredients :

For khichdi

  • 1 cup Rice
  • 1/2 cup split green gram dal (chhilka wali Moong dal)
  •  salt to taste 
  • 1 chopped tomato 
  • 1/2 tsp turmeric powder 
  • green peas
  • 2 green cardamom 
  • 4 cups water 
Ingredients for tadka (Tempering):
  • 1 tbsp cumin seeds
  • 2 green chilies 
  • 1 tbsp deshi ghee or butter 
  • 1 pinch asafoetida (hing) 
  • 2 bay leaves 
  • 1/2 cup cauliflower finely chopped 
  • chopped coriander leaves
  • 10-12 cashew nuts (kaju) 
Moong dal-Rice 

Method :

Wash Rice and dal. In the pressure cooker, add chawal, dal, water, salt, turmeric powder, green cardamom, tomato, green peas and cover with lid and cook it until 2 whistle and turn off the flame. Allow the steam to escape before opening the lid.  Now heat ghee or butter in a pan, add hing, cumin, bay leaves,chilly when the seeds crackle, add cashew nuts, cauliflower and a pinch salt and saute for 2 minutes and add in the cooked khichdi and add coriander leaves. Now serve hot with, ghee, dahi, papad aur achar.
