Karela( bitter gourd) ki simple sabzi recipe

Bitter gourd is the best and healthy for diabetic. Everyone cooks bitter gourd, but use different recipes. Today, I am posting easy and fast cooking bitter gourd recipe. I don't used onion-garlic and no hard spices, therefore suitable for Jains too.


  • 250 gms. bitter gourd (karela)
  • 1 tbsp coriander powder
  • 1/2 tsp turmeric powder
  • 1/2 tsp cumin powder
  • 1/4 tsp black pepper powder
  • 1 chopped green chilly or 
  • 1/4 tsp red chilly powder 
  • 2 tbsp curd (Dahi)
  • salt to taste 
  • 2 tsp oil
  • 1/4 tsp cumin seeds 
  • 1/2 tsp mustard seeds 
  • 5-6 curry leaves 
  • 1 pinch asafoetida (Hing) 
Method :
Wash the bitter gourd and cut in to four parts and remove the all seeds. Now in the cooker, add bitter gourd, half glass of water, 2 pinch salt and boil it until a whistle and remove from the flame and keep aside. After some time drain off all water of boiled bitter gourd and keep aside. Now heat 1 tsp oil in a pan and fry boiled the bitter gourd till they turn golden brown. Now again heat 1 tsp oil, add cumin, mustard seeds, curry leaves, hing and crackle. Now add all spices, salt, little water and curd and saute for 1 minute. Now add fried bitter gourd and stir-fry for 2 minutes and switch off the flame. Serve with rotis.
