Chana masala(Chick peas) in Sambhar style

Ingredients :
Cooked chana masala

  • 1 cup chick peas(kabuli chana)
  • 1 cup tomato puree 
  • 2 tbsp tamarind pulp
  • 2 tbsp onion paste 
  • 1 chopped onion
  • 1/2 tsp fenugreek seeds
  • 1 tsp split urad dal 
  • 1/2 tsp mustard seeds
  • 10-15 curry leaves 
  • 2 pinch asafoetida( hing)
  • 2 tbsp oil
  • salt to taste 
  • 1/2 tsp turmeric powder
  • 4 tbsp sambhar masala powder
  • 1 tsp sugar or jaggery 
Method :
Soak the chickpeas in water for overnight and keep them aside.  Now boil soak chickpeas in the pressure cooker with 2 glasses of water and 1/2 tsp salt until a whistle. Now turn the gas off and put cooker aside to cool. Now heat oil in a pan, add mustard, fenugreek seeds, urad dal, hing, curry leaves and chopped onion and fry till golden brown. Now add onion paste saute for 1 minutes and add all spices, salt, tomato, tamarind pulp,sugar and saute for 5 minutes. Now add boil chickpeas in the masala gravy and add 1 bowl of water and cook for 5 minutes and it remove from the gas. Serve with puri, bhatura, paratha, rice.
