Kala chana masala (black chickpea) recipe

Chana masala is very popular in India's city and villages. Chana is known as chickpea. This chana masala recipe is very simple and tasty.

Ingredients:
Serve chana masala

  • 2 cup black chickpea( kala chana)
  • 1 pinch eating soda
  • 1 onion finely chopped
  • 1/2 cup onion paste
  • 1 cup tomato puree
  • 2 tbsp curd
  • 1 tbsp jaggery 
  • 2 tbsp tamarind pulp(imli ka ras)
  • 1/2 tsp cumin seeds
  • 2 bay leaves
  • 1 tbsp coriander powder
  • 1/2 tsp turmeric powder
  • 1 tsp red chilly powder
  • 1/2 tsp cumin powder
  • 1/2 tsp black pepper powder
  • 1/2 tsp garam masala
  • salt to taste
  • 2 tbsp oil
Method :
Soak black chickpea overnight for 5-6 hrs. Now, add in a pressure cooker soaked chickpea,1 glass of water,1/4 tsp salt and eating soda and cover it with lid and boil for 1 whistle. Now drain of all water and keep it aside. Now heat oil in a pan, add cumin seeds,bay leaves and crackle it and add chopped onion and saute for 2 minutes. Add onion paste stir and add all spices powder saute for 2 minutes and add tomato puree,salt, jaggery and stir for 5 minutes. Now add boiled black chickpea and stir-fry for 1 minute and add 1 bowl of water and cook it for 5 minutes. After 5 minutes add tamarind pulp and curd and mix well and remove from heat. Serve with puris, rice, rotis and dry poha.
