Kulthi ( Horse gram) ki dal tasty and easy recipe

Kulthi dal helps in removal of kidney stones and hence is very good for health.
Serve= 2

Kulthi Dal
Ingredients :

  • 2 tbsp horse gram dal powder
  • 1/2 tsp turmeric powder
  • 2 bowls water 
  • 2 nos kokum or 2 slice raw mango
  • salt to taste 
  • 1/2 tsp cumin seeds
  • 1 bay leaf
  • 1 dry red chilly
  • 1 pinch asafoetida ( hing)
  • 1 tbsp oil
Method :
Heat pan and roast kulthi dal for 5 minutes. Now make dry powder of kulthi in a blender.Take a pan, add water, dal powder, salt, turmeric and kokum and cook it for 10 minutes. After that heat oil in a pan, add cumin seeds, red chilly, hing and bay leaf crack and tempere for dal. Serve with rice or as a soup..

  1. I love horse gram recipe, even we in Kerala make curry using horsegram and coconut.. but will be a bit mushy...a bit more spicy . here the addition of kokkam very surprising... a different one...

    I tried to cook kulthi this way (only without chilli as I am pitta and this time I cooked without garlic and onions), however, the lentils stay very stiff to bite as if not cooked at all. It is the reason to put them in a blender to make a powder? Besides, which is a bigger problem, they are bitter. What is my mistake? Besides, as far as I understood, kulthi increases pitta. How can I equilibrate pitta? Are coriander seeds enough for that? Thank you, Jana
